Heritage Open Day: Quaker Meeting Houses reflect the Quaker testimony to simplicity: there are no icons and nothing ornate in them. They often have a calm aura. We aim to explain why this is. Meet on Sunday 21 September, at 1.00pm, outside Pontefract Quaker Meeting House. We will look at the external appearance of the Meeting House, and explain why some of the features are as they are, and then move indoors. The current Pontefract Meeting House is 27 years old, though there has been a Quaker Meeting in Pontefract since the 17th century. It's similar to many of the early Meeting Houses, but with the benefit of central heating! We'll also have available a power point showing a range of Quaker Meeting Houses. At the end we'll have tea/coffee and cake. We anticipate that the event will last about an hour and a half...
