Heritage Open Day: Visit 15 Castle Hill and the Cottage Museum, the smallest and most immersive museum in the North West. Learn about this fascinating building and how it has changed over the centuries. Over the door of the Cottage Museum the initials RAT 1739 are carved, but the building dates back further than that. Welcome to this 17th century building, the smallest and most immersive museum in the North West. Sit a while by the fire, have a go with a drop spindle, try on a hat, grate some spices and learn all about this fascinating building and how it has changed over the centuries. Read the indentures and deeds, which note the building passing through different families, and learn about its restoration after being declared unfit for habitation in the 1960s. We are offering free admission and hope that you will take away a cottage model to cut out and build at home...
