Heritage Open Day: An illustrated talk by Professor Joyce Hill, addressing Leeds Parish Church (now Leeds Minster), Kirkstall Abbey, St John's Adel, St John the Evangelist & Holy Trinity Boar Lane. The Domesday Book records that the small village of Leeds had a church and a priest. A bigger church replaced it on the same site but was pulled down in 1838 to make way for the Victorian Minster, which occupies the exact footprint of the medieval church, enlarged over the centuries. Professor Hill's illustrated talk looks at the evidence for the Anglo-Saxon church and goes on to examine Kirkstall Abbey and St John's Adel, St John the Evangelist and Holy Trinity Boar Lane, each with the distinctive architecture of their period.
