Heritage Open Day: Visitors can enjoy the grandeur and beauty of the only elliptical church in England, whilst being guided through its history. There has been a Christian church standing on the site of All Saints on the northern bank of the River Tyne since the twelfth century. The present building, constructed between 1786 and 1796, is an excellent example of 18th-century neoclassical architecture, but it is also a reflection of post-reformation theology in architecture. It was built to the designs of David Stephenson (1756–1819), a local builder and architect, and is where Lord Armstrong (of Cragside fame) was baptised.
