Heritage Open Day: There has been a community of Baptists in Berkhamsted since 1640. Why not pop in and look around our current building. Opened in 1865, it has a largely unaltered interior typical of non-conformist church buildings of the period. Designed by Joseph Neale of Bristol in the gothic revival style and built by Mr Tofield of Houghton Regis, the church commands a prominent position at one end of Berkhamsted High Street. Today, the building still has many of its original features, including a four-sided gallery with original panelling, and pews throughout. The front platform incorporates a full immersion baptistry pool, which can be covered and uncovered as required. Originally containing a Sunday School, the Lower Hall will also be open with a chance to explore some of the history of the church over the last 385 years...
