All Saints Church, Wiltshire Road, Wokingham RG40 1TN
Heritage Open Day: Exhibition of changes made by the Victorians and particualrly architect, Henry Woodyer to the mainly mediaeval church. The foundation of All Saints is mediaeval and this can still be seen in the pillars, the font, and the slightly later roof. The church building originally served a much larger Parish. When the Parish was divided and St Pauls church founded, All Saints was in a somewhat dilapidted state. Henry Woodyer had built the new church on the Reading Road and then put his design skill to a major refurbishment of All Saints, the church on London Road. One of the particular glories of the Victorian church was the addition of most of the stained galss windows. Another important addition was the reredos, though this was not Woodyer's work. These will be a particular focus of our exhibition and of the hourly talks (at 10am, 11am, 12 noon and 1 pm) on Monday 15th and Wednesday 17th September...
