Railway Cottages Talk & Street Tour

Fri 19 Sep:1000-1200; Sat 20 Sep:1000-1200; Free Entry. 9 Spencer Street, New Bradwell, Milton Keynes MK13 0DW Heritage Open Day: Talk about the history of the cottages and their current use as a Housing Co-operative followed by a walk around the exterior of the cottages. Railway Cottages, Spencer Street was one of a number of streets built by the LNWR to house their workers in the 1860s. It contained twenty-four houses, twenty small houses for the workers and their families, and four large houses for the foremen. It fell into disrepair and all the remaining streets were demolished in the 1950s. MKDC decided to keep one street for heritage purposes. This coincided with a request from a group of people looking for property to set up a Housing Co-operative. It was agreed that the street would be suitable for this purpose.
