Heritage Open Day: A beautiful Grade 1 Listed church with twelfth century origins. Well worth a visit to see the exceptional pew ends dating from circa 1540 as well as the ancient corbels and gargoyles. We are open to chat and provide teas & coffees on 13th September. The parish church of St Peter and Paul, Drax is a stunning Grade I listed building with twelfth century origins and thirteenth-nineteenth century alterations and additions. The building was extensively remodelled in the mid-sixteenth century following the suppression of the Augustinian priory at Long Drax (‘Drax Abbey’) in 1535 and the reset figure carvings above the nave arcades and the clerestory windows, are said to have come from the Priory...
