Heritage Open Day: A historic Regency church with well informed members of the congregation available to explain its history. Brighton Unitarian Church was built in 1820 on land purchased from the Prince Regent. The congregation dates from 1793 when nineteen members of a Calvinist Baptist chapel in what is now Bond Street were expelled for adopting Universalist beliefs derived from the writings of the American Baptist preacher, Elhanan Winchester. The church building was completed in August 1820. Dr Morell, a well-known classical scholar, was appointed as the first minister of the church.
