King Harold Day at Waltham Abbey

From 10.30am to 4.00pm. Charges for some of the activities, but there will be free activities as well.

Waltham Abbey commemorates the anniversary of the death of King Harold II on the battlefield at Hastings in 1066. He was Lord of the Manor of Waltham and founded the Minster Church. He was the last Anglo Saxon King of England. The day will include re-enactors, story-telling, Anglo-Saxon cooking and more at the Museum between 10.30 and 3.30pm. There will be children's activities at the Library. The Abbey Church will have a recital by students from Trinity Laban Conservatoire at 12 noon; The tower will be open between 1.30 and 3.45pm - climb to the top, see the bells and admire the view. Tea, coffee and cake served in the church. And there will be a Guided Tour of the church at 2.30pm. At 1.00pm there will be the King Harold Day parade of costumed re-enactors and others through the town centre. Assemble outside the museum by 12.55 The parade will end at the King Harold Memorial in the Abbey Churchyard where a Ceremony will take place. There will be stories about King Harold and his times, and flowers will be placed on the Memorial. Come and join us on Saturday, we would love to have you with us on this special day...
