Celebrating Saint Lucy’s Day with light, peace, and joy. Vincent Gray is a figurative sculptor known for historical figures, with works in England, Scotland, and Sweden. A Royal Society of Sculptors member since 2000, his sculptures in Chichester include John Keats and Leonard Bernstein. His latest piece, The West Africa Squadron Memorial, is at Farnham Sculpture Park. Lucia and Starboy Saint Lucy’s Day, celebrated on 13 December, honors Lucia of Syracuse, a martyr who helped Christians in hiding. Her name means “light,” and the day symbolizes hope during winter. In Scandinavia, girls wear white dresses and candle crowns, while boys join as “starboys” or other festive characters. The day is also marked in Italy, Saint Lucia, Hungary, and Croatia, with traditions like planting wheat to symbolize Jesus’ birth...
