This practical course is perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to refresh their map and compass skills in a relaxed and supportive environment. You’ll spend the day outdoors learning by doing, with plenty of time to practise your new skills under the guidance of an experienced instructor. What You’ll Learn Understanding and using OS maps (1:25,000 scale) Reading grid references and using Romer scales Setting the map and using a compass Identifying key map features and contours Handrailing, pacing, and timing Route planning and hazard awareness Basic compass bearings and orientation By the end of the day, you’ll have the skills to plan and follow your own routes with confidence.
