Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre Libanus, Brecon LD3 8NL Step into the footsteps of Britain’s elite. The Fan Dance is a legendary endurance route, inspired by the historic selection process of the UK Special Forces (SAS/SBS). While famously used as a test of grit and resilience, this guided event is designed as a full-day hike not a race offering a powerful physical and mental challenge in one of the most dramatic landscapes in the UK. The Experience This guided hike follows the original 24-kilometre (15-mile) Fan Dance route over Pen y Fan, the highest peak in Southern Britain. You’ll tackle the steep and exposed ascent to the summit, descend the iconic Jacob’s Ladder, traverse the rugged Roman road, and then return via the same demanding route — including a second climb of Pen y Fan. This isn’t a competitive event or a military test — it’s an opportunity to walk one of the most famous and demanding hiking routes in the Brecon Beacons, guided by experienced outdoor leaders. Expect challenging terrain, stunning panoramic views, and a deep sense of achievement at the finish.
