Erasmus Darwin House, Beacon Street, Lichfield, Staffs WS13 7AD Letters through Time – The true tale of the “poet postman,” an ordinary man with an extraordinary story. An Arts Council England funded commission for Festival at the Edge. Like many thousands of others, Simon Evans was quite literally a broken man, in more ways than one, after his terrible ordeal in the trenches of WW1. Having been badly wounded, he was sent home to recover, then returned to his postal round in Liverpool, where he struggled to deal with the trauma inflicted upon him by war. But this ordinary postman was a man of optimism and drive – his story is one of hope. We walk with Simon along the path his life takes, from his happy Welsh childhood, through the horrors of war, to the quiet restorative calm of the countryside in Shropshire, witnessing the very personal struggle of a man not only coming to terms with life after conflict, but finding a way to enjoy living once again. The story of Simon’s life is woven together with extracts from his own personal letters and prose, and with traditional tales from all over the world – their messages of hope and perseverance are just as relevant for audiences today as they ever were. Praise for Letters Through Time “Joyous, beautiful, inspiring and poetic.” Taffy Thomas MBE, Storytelling Laureate. “Such a cleverly created biography, constructed with imagination and pathos. First class storytelling.” “Wonderfully researched. Absolutely beautifully done. Moved me to tears”... READ MORE>
