Edinburgh care home welcomes community to celebrate Burns Night
Wed 21 Jan 26
Wednesday 21st January from 2.30pm
Cairdean House 185 Redford Road Colinton Edinburgh Scotland EH13 9PN
A care home in Edinburgh is honouring a very special Scottish tradition – with the help of some impressive pipes! On Wednesday 21st January from 2.30pm, residents and team members at Care UK’s Cairdean House, on Redford Road in Colinton, will be dressed in their best tartan attire as they welcome the local community ahead of the upcoming Burns Night. To begin the day of festivities, guests can enjoy a traditional haggis parade led by a piper playing the bagpipes, who will fill the home with the sounds of Scotland. Resident Wilma Temple will recite the traditional “Addressing of the Haggis” for all to enjoy. The entertainment will continue with a poetry recital from resident Jim McLeod, honouring the national bard. After the performance, guests are invited to enjoy a little taste of Burns with a selection of specially prepared bites created by the home’s head chef, and of course, Irn-Bru. The celebrations do not end there, as visitors will be treated to a lively ceilidh from 6pm to 7.30pm, featuring traditional music, dancing and plenty of cheer. Resident at Cairdean House, Dorothy Pollett said: I am very much looking forward to the Burns celebrations where we all get together and celebrate! The Ceilidh will be a delight to look forward to. Angela Burns, Home Manager at Cairdean House, said: “We can’t wait to celebrate Burns Night with the community. Many of the residents have fond memories of marking the occasion in their younger years, so this is a wonderful opportunity for them to reminisce and share stories with their loved ones. “We warmly invite the people of Edinburgh and beyond to join us and don their best Tam o’ Shanter hats and tartan scarves. It’s sure to be an event to remember!”...
