Organised by the SLHA and presented by Dr Andrew Walker, this talk will use a variety of sources, including census enumerators’ books, place names and newspaper accounts, the talk explores the economic and social lives of gypsies in Lincolnshire and how they have been variously represented, sometimes negatively and, on other occasions, in exoticised and romanticised terms. Dr Andrew Walker is currently Chair of the Society for Lincolnshire History & Archaeology. He has a longstanding interest in the history of the county and has published widely. He taught history at the University of Lincoln before becoming Vice Principal of Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance between 2010 and 2020.
