The Worthing Wurlitzer is one of the finest theatre pipe organs in the UK. It is installed in the acoustically superb Assembly Hall which brings out the best of its warm, rich and thrilling sounds. With over 1,600 individual pipes, together with Xylophone, Glockenspiel, Drums, Cymbals and much more, you can think of it as an orchestra under the control of one master musician. The instrument was first heard in Worthing in 1981, but it harks back to the long-gone grand cinema days of silent films, interludes (with ice cream!) and of course Saturday morning pictures. The Worthing Wurlitzer is built from three separate instruments originally installed in cinemas in the 1930’s. It has been fully restored and refined by some of the world’s finest craftsman, resulting in the spectacular instrument you see and hear today. The Worthing Wurlitzer is used regularly for concerts with popular music from the 1920’s onwards, to provide live music for tea dances and to accompany silent films from the pioneer days of cinema – all performed by leading International artists...
