Friendship Cafe at Charlton Lodge Care Home

Every second Wednesday of the month from 10.30am–12.30pm Charlton Lodge Care Home, 3 Buttercup Road, Wantage OX12 7FW A care home in Wantage has marked the one-year anniversary of a monthly event in which residents build new friendships with their neighbours. Every second Wednesday of the month from 10.30am–12.30pm, Care UK’s Charlton Lodge opens its doors for older people in the community to enjoy a relaxed get-together at its friendship café. During the sessions, attendees have the opportunity to take part in a host of activities, including arts and crafts, and learn new skills over a hot drink and a tasty treat. With the friendship café – which is run in partnership with Dementia Oxfordshire – 12 months old, the home held a special celebration to mark its success. An impressive 22 people were in attendance, enjoying cups of tea, a selection of homemade cakes freshly baked by Head Chef Marcella Field, and the opportunity to catch up with friends, both old and new. Carla Kell, Home Manager at Charlton Lodge, said: “We are dedicated to making a positive difference in our community, and we believe no one should ever feel alone. “Creating strong support networks is vital and our friendship café is designed to do just that, offering a welcoming space where people can relax, connect and enjoy each other’s company. “As we celebrate the event’s one-year anniversary, we’re looking forward to reflecting on the past 12 months and sharing conversations over a cup of tea and a slice of cake.” Charlton Lodge is a state-of-the-art care home providing full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
