After the resounding success of last year’s HMS Pinafore, award winning Stamford Gilbert & Sullivan Players are staying nautical once again by bringing you The Pirates of Penzance – a swashbuckling adventure guaranteed to make you shiver your timbers! This much-loved comic opera tells the hilarious tale of Frederic, a dashing young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of swashbuckling, yet tender-hearted pirates – until his 21st birthday, which he has just celebrated. But with a leap year birthday on February 29th, is he actually bound to remain a pirate for another 63 years? And will his sweetheart, the beautiful Mabel be willing to wait that long for him? Join Frederic on his unforgettable journey as he encounters fearless maidens, petrified policemen, and a tongue twisting patter – singing Modern Major General, all whilst navigating the chaos of love, duty and loyalty on the high seas. With Director Ruth Palmer and Musical Director Duncan Balcon safely at the helm, and packed with colour, energy and catchy tunes, this production features a large, enthusiastic, multi-generational and exceptionally talented cast. Expect all the usual Gilbert & Sullivan topsy-turvy silliness and sparkling wit that you’ve come to know and love…… A show for all ages – and one you definitely won’t want to miss! Step aboard me hearties!...
