However, in order to inherit, he must conform to the aristocratic lifestyle, including giving up his girlfriend Sally Smith, whom he loves dearly. The comedic plot revolves around Bill's attempts to navigate high society while staying true to himself and his roots. His new-found aunt, Maria, the Duchess of Dene, feels that with a little grooming, Bill will be suitable to inherit the title -- and the money. However, Bill refuses to accept the title if cannot keep Sally as his girl. Eventually, Sally herself is transformed -- a la My Fair Lady -- and Bill is allowed to inherit the title and keep his girl.
