Drop-in Activity: Brain Lab

Tue 7 Jul
11am- 2pm, Free drop-in activity
Physicians' Gallery, 11 Queen Street EH2 1JQ Join us for a free, drop-in activity day led by scientists from the University of Edinburgh Montagne Lab, part of the UK Dementia Research Institute. Explore how the brain works, what it’s made of, and how it changes in conditions such as dementia through a series of fun, hands-on activities suitable for all ages. What to expect: You’ll rotate through three interactive stations: - Build a Neuron Workshop Create your own neurons using pipe cleaners while learning what they do in the brain and how they’re affected in dementia. - Brain City: Blood Flow Challenge Step into a creative “brain map” where blood vessels become highways and brain regions turn into buildings. Deliver oxygen, clear waste, and keep everything running smoothly until disease introduces roadblocks, fires, and shutdowns! - Fluid Biomarker Activity Discover how scientists track disease progression by analysing molecules in blood samples through a colourful, hands-on experiment. Meet the Scientists: Researchers from the Montagne Lab study how blood vessel changes and inflammation contribute to neurodegeneration and dementia. They’re passionate about science, public engagement, mentoring future scientists and collecting plushies! All ages welcome As well as the drop-in activity, the Physicians’ Gallery has a children’s medical library, colouring-in, worksheets and a dressing-up station available every day... READ MORE>
