Sidcup care home invites veterans to a special coffee morning

11am-12.30pm, free to attend Smyth Lodge 2 Frognal Ave Sidcup DA14 6LF A care home in Sidcup is inviting members of the community who have served, or are serving, in the Armed Forces to a special coffee morning. On Wednesday 17th June, from 11am–12.30pm, and every third Wednesday of each month, Care UK’s Smyth Lodge on Frognal Avenue, will be hosting a veterans coffee morning, giving residents and Sidcup locals a chance to meet others who have served in the Armed Forces. On the day, guests will have the opportunity to chat with residents and share stories of their younger days, all while enjoying delicious hot drinks and cakes specially made by the home’s talented head chef. Smyth Lodge is accredited by the Veteran Friendly Framework – a collaboration between several armed forces charities. To achieve this status, they had to meet eight key standards, including noting Armed Forces status within care plans, addressing social isolation, and signposting to support services, such as their local Royal British Legion branch and other charities that provide support for veterans or their partners. Tracey Cheeseman, Home Manager at Smyth Lodge, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the veterans coffee morning. “It’s incredibly important to us at Smyth Lodge that members of the Armed Forces community feel recognised and appreciated. We’re proud to create a welcoming space where people can share stories, enjoy good company, and connect with others, especially those who may not always have someone to talk to. “We’re really looking forward to bringing everyone together to help create new friendships, and honour the remarkable individuals who have served our country.” Smyth Lodge has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and enable residents to lead active and fulfilling lives.
