Stansted House Musical Afternoon with Los Ladrones

Los Ladrones - a local vocal quintet - present a programme of George Grossmith. (1847 - 1912) Two Melodramas with songs and dialogue and extracts from 'Haste to the Wedding' with narration. Refreshments served in the interval. Car parking right out side the House. ‘Castle Bang or Where’s the Heiress?’ (1894) is a Musical Farce in One Act and is set in The Parlour at ‘The Green Bull’. It includes an opening song in the style of Gilbert and Sullivan which is sung by Bob Shocker, a mysterious detective. The dialogue is amusing and clever, whilst the songs are tuneful, including, ‘The Eye’ with new words by Geoffrey Porter. The Extracts from ‘Haste to The Wedding’ (1892) has words by W.S. Gilbert of Gilbert & Sullivan fame, whilst the music is cleverly crafted by George Grossmith. There will be a narration between the two duets and four solos, with the company joining in with two of them. ‘Carrottina, The Gardener’s Daughter’ or ‘The Pleasant Peasant and The Dreadful Duke’ (1888) was written and composed by George Grossmith. In this performance ‘The Gendarmes’ Duet’ by Jacques Offenbach will be interpolated, with new words by Geoff., who has also written new words for GG’s ‘The Baby on the Shore’. It also includes his other well-known hit, ‘See me Dance the Polka’...
