The classical music group Harmoniemusik is delighted to return to give three concerts at the Parish Church of St Columb Major this August.Harmoniemusik’s ‘Classic Cornwall’ series has secured a loyal and enthusiastic following since its first concerts in August 1992, when it began its annual celebration of outstanding chamber music in the beautiful setting of the Parish Church at St Columb Major, an historic venue noted for its beautiful acoustic. Tuesday’s concert includes Mozart’s wonderful Piano Quartet K 493 and Vivaldi’s concerto ‘La Tempesta di Mare’. Thursday’s performance features a quintet by J.C. Bach, three quirky Shostakovitch trios, Blumer’s tuneful Sextet for piano and wind and Gabriel Fauré’s masterpiece, the Opus 15 Piano Quartet. Saturday’s concert has an initial French flavour with Poulenc’s dazzling Sextet for Piano and Wind and Jean Francaix’s quirky L’heure du Berger, with the second half of the concert to include a selection of lighter works. Thursday’s concert begins at 4pm with cream teas available from the Columba Centre from 3pm.
