Heritage Open Day: Havant has been a town for a very long time and has interacted with Kings and the Legal profession many times in the past
This exhibition looks at one particular interaction between the Men of Havant in 1274 and the King in 1274 the town had been troubled by various changes that had been made by powerful people and overlords.
The Men of the town, at that time women and children didn't really count, made a plea to King Edward I, who had recently been crowned, to beg the King to ease the work that the Monks and Bishop of Winchester were making Havant men do which they felt was contrary to the rules that had been in existence since before Conquest...
