This special event invites you to step inside, hear stories of the people who lived and worked there, and learn about the history and legends of the iconic Cage. For Heritage Open Day 2026, we're opening the doors to one of Lyme's most iconic landmarks.
Perched high on Lyme's moorland, The Cage is a Grade II* listed building that has stood watch over the landscape for centuries. From its elevated position, visitors can enjoy spectacular views stretching across the Cheshire Plain, towards Manchester's industrial skyline and the rolling peaks of Derbyshire.
Thought to have been built as a hunting lodge or banqueting house, The Cage has had many lives over the years...
