In the heart of bustling Liverpool is a place of boundary-pushing creativity. The Bluecoat is the UK's first arts centre, a working home for artists for almost 100 years. A key part of the Bluecoat’s story for the past few decades has been the development of Blue Room, an inclusive arts programme supporting learning disabled and neurodivergent artists.
Since 2008, Blue Room artists have been meeting at the Bluecoat to explore the galleries and develop and share their own work. The project aims to break down barriers and highlight Blue Room artists' talent and creativity. Being part of Blue Room is often transformative for its members, empowering many to develop their creative practice while building lifelong friendships.
With their studio right in the heart of Liverpool’s main shopping district, Blue Room is next-door neighbours to the flagship Lush Spa Liverpool, where they have held several ‘store takeovers’ to launch their artist collaborations since 2023. These lively events have featured sculpture trails nestled amongst the bath bombs, hands-on creative workshops and even a pop-up window exhibition.
