Celts may have given birth to some of our beliefs around Halloween. The last day of October was known as Samhain. It is believed that this was the end of the Celtic year and the day after would be the new year. On the night of Samhain, a new year was being stitched to the old. This meant that the world was weaker and allowed spirits to enter our world. To ward them away, they would carve out vegetables, such as turnips, into lanterns to guide the spirits home.
Join us on Tuesday 27th October as we celebrate Samhain by stitching our on year with the next one. Create a collage of the best bits of your year, stitch it to how you intend to spend Samhain/Halloween, and stitch that to how you hope the next year will go ahead.
This family activity is a drop in session with two time slots for the day. Please book into the timeslot you wish to attend so that we can monitor numbers and prepare resources. Please book for all members of the group taking part in the activity. The activity is free but any donations are gratefully received...
