A varied and atmospheric lunchtime treat, with three masterpieces from American masters of the 20th Century. Copland’s ’ El Salon Mexico’ depicts an imaginary dance hall in Mexico City, complimenting Bernstein’s classical/jazz fusion ’Prelude, Fugue and Riffs’, written in 1949 for Woody Hermann and his Big Band. Gershwin’s ’An American in Paris’ conjures up the sights and energy of the French capital in the 1920s.
