Discover the story of Lawrence Beesley, Wirksworth’s Titanic survivor.This exhibition tells his story of survival during one of the 20th centuries most infamous disasters. Lawrence was born in Wirksworth, the son of bank clerk and grew up in the town. His life took a dramatic turn after he boarded Titanic to take a holiday in America. After escaping the ship he wrote a book about his experiences which became a basis for many of the modern retellings of the disaster. The exhibition features a genuine piece of Titanic and explores Lawrence connections other 20th century events including a story about 101 Dalmatians.
