St Dubricius Church in Porlock, Somerset, is having an Open Day.
The bell-ringing demonstrations (and have-a-go sessions) and the Children’s Church Mouse Trail are always popular. This year, in addition, we are bringing some of Porlock’s history to life, with actors reciting short monologues about historic events that have impacted Porlock, or about characters from its past. For example, who was St Dubricius, or when did the Vikings invade - why not come and find out?
Our church is of architectural interest with a truncated spire covered in native oak shingles; there's part of a cross said to be one of the oldest relics in West Somerset; a yew tree in the churchyard said to be over 1,000 years old, and we have tombs and monuments too.
There will also be music, our Town Crier and of course - tea, coffee and cake!
Everyone will be most welcome to join us for this fun and informative day.
10.00 am - 2.00 pm
