Artist Chris Mouncey brings weekly two-hour watercolour painting sessions to learn some simple watercolour painting techniques and enjoy honing your skills. 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th May and 6 June. Chris is also holding 3 watercolour painting tuition days (25th May, 22nd June and 27th July).

Artist Chris Mouncey offers you the chance to enjoy a day painting on location around the Market Cross, with The Witham as your base. Chris is also holding 2 more watercolour painting tuition days on 22nd June down by the river Tees and 27th July by the castle.
Calling all nature lovers! Drop in to lend a hand with a marathon habitat survey around Hawthorn Hythe to improve the way we care for wildlife. No experience is necessary. Rangers will be on hand to offer expert guidance.
Part of the 50 acre landscape within open countryside around Ushaw College, the gardens were originally laid out in 1840 in front of the Georgian house and feature a formal rhododendron garden with herbaceous borders and rose beds.
A lovely lavender walk leads to a Queen Anne-fronted house (not open) surrounded by a 5 acre garden, comprising a stunning herbaceous border, large fruit and vegetable plot, two ponds and wonderful topiary arched wall.
The garden is approx a quarter of an acre, divided into two, one half used as a vegetable garden with large greenhouse. The other half of the garden is lawn with well stocked (and some unusual planting) herbaceous borders and small pond. Bees are kept in the vegetable garden.
