A Taste of Christ Church - Banquet in the Great Hall
For nearly five hundred years the Hall has continued to fulfil its original function of providing a space in which the academic community can gather and share a meal. In addition to the daily rituals of breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Hall is used on special occasions for banquets and celebratory reunion dinners such as Gaudies. Since its creation in 1525 by Cardinal Wolsey the room has also been the setting for royal feasts, plays, debates and even Charles I’s parliament during the Civil War.
