British Archaeology - Victorian coal mine site, excavations & consolidation, newly exposed mine shaf
LIHS have excavated the Engine House, Boiler house, Ventilation Tunnels, Winding/Ventilation fan?foundations etc, and also a recently discovered (forgotten?) mine shaft. The site is also being actively conserved by our host organisation The Swannington Heritage Trust at their Hough Mill site, adjacent to the Swannington end of the Leics & Swannington 1832 Railway, one of the worlds first steam railways. The Trust will be opening this part restored Wind Mill and the other early coal extraction
