Magic & Witchcraft – A History of Beliefs in the Early Modern Period - Karen House, historian,writer
Karen will give a talk about how religious changes and social and political pressures contributed to a rise in the persecution of ordinary folk for magic and witchcraft in the early modern period. Using objects from the collections of The Blackden Trust and features of the Old Medicine House as examples, Karen will untangle the confusion between belief and superstition and will challenge the traditional stereotype of the English Witch.
