Church of St John the Evangelist

Heritage Open Day: The church was consecrated in 1885, having been built by Sir Gilbert Greenall, first Baronet, as part of the Walton Estate. It was designed by Paley Austin of Lancaster in a Gothic style and constructed in Cheshire sandstone. A central feature is the ornately carved oak reredos in the sanctuary. The organ,a 3 manual instrument , built by Hill & Sons of London, is one of the finest in the area. There are many other beautiful features to view and admire in this lovely church.
