St Mary's Church, Beaumont.
Heritage Open Day: St Mary's Church is built on the line of Hadrian's Wall. It sits in a commanding position offering fine views of the Solway and surrounding countryside.
This was the site of a Roman Milecastle and long after the Romans departed the Normans constructed a motte and bailey castle to repel invasion from the Scots. The castle eventually became the church. Stones from the Wall provided building material.
Restorations in 1872 and 1888 left the interior of the church in
