Hinckley and District Museum

Heritage Open Day: Visit the last surviving thatched timber box frame cottages in Hinckley, dating from the 1680s, which house a museum of local history. The roof was re-thatched 2014/5 with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Once lived in by framework knitters you can see a stocking frame of c.1740. New for 2015 are displays on the local men at the Battle of Waterloo (1815) and at Gallipoli (1915); old Hinckley in photographs and objects; the Barwell Meteorite; the re-thatching of the cott
