For centuries books have been banned, suppressed or censored. What causes such offence? In this exhibition, beginning with Lawrence’s ‘The Rainbow’ now in its centenary year, we look at what led many now well-known novels to be suppressed by the authorities. How do we view these works in today’s social climate, are we still offended by their content?
