Winterbourne Medieval Barn
Winterbourne Medieval Barn, built in 1342 by Thomas de Bradeston, is a unique surviving example of a great medieval Barn built by a gentry family. Constructed using green timber methods, the cutting edge technology for the time, it has been described as a magnificent example of the builders craft and one of the largest and earliest raised-cruck barns. Dating from the period just before the Black Death first hit in England, this stunning building is a superb survivor of a long-lost agricultural world.
The surrounding buildings were renovated in 2019, thanks to major funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and others, to provide well-equipped heated spaces for public hire, and a row of artisan workshops in the converted cow byres.
Winterbourne Medieval Barn is run by a Trust whose aim is to keep the barns in regular use by the community for heritage education, promotion of rural crafts and skills, music and performance arts. Special events take place most weeks.

The Barn is open for Tea and Tour on the first Thursday afternoon of each month. Pre-booking is advised via the website.
