Heritage Open Day: TALES FROM THE BUNKER. Kendal’s Cold War Bunker. During the Cold War years of the1960s when the world was in fear of nuclear attack, an Emergency Control Centre (a nuclear bunker) was built in County Hall, Kendal. Much can still be seen of this installation. Heritage Open Day visitors will be shown around the bunker and see displays of relevant archives and publications.
