Heritage Open Day: Pioneering owners of some of the UK’s most eco-friendly SuperHomes are hosting free Open Days this September. SuperHomes are older homes refurbished by their owners for greater comfort, lower bills and fewer carbon emissions - at least 60% less! Visitors can expect to come away with plenty of ideas for greening their own properties, including home improvements likely to be eligible for future Green Deal finance. Martin Crane lives in a semi-detached house built in 1930. Martin added a loft conversion and refurbished his house, achieving a 66% carbon saving. Improvements include insulation to external walls and floors, new wooden framed double glazed windows and a new condensing boiler with weather compensating controls. Solar PV and solar water heating have been installed and rainwater is used to flush the loo!
