On a cold night in Covent Garden in 1912, Professor Henry Higgins, an eccentric expert in speech and phonetics, boasts that he can pass a flower girl off as a duchess simply by teaching her “proper” English. One such flower girl, the idealistic cockney Eliza Doolittle, volunteers for Higgins’ tuition. As Eliza learns to imitate the Edwardian ideal of the perfect lady and elevate herself from her working class roots, she finds that her honesty and humility isolate her from the upper-class. Higgin
