Britten: Rejoice in the Lamb + Howells: Requiem

Oxford Pro Musica Singers present a concert featuring two twentieth-century English Masterpieces: Britten’s ever-popular Rejoice in the Lamb and Howells’ Requiem – written in 1935 but unpublished and unperformed until 1980 . The concert also includes Britten’s Festival Te Deum, written for St Mark’s Church in Swindon, and Howells’ Magnificat ‘Collegium Regale’, arguable his most famous and most popular work.

The concert is completed with two pieces by John Rutter, one of the pre-eminent choral composers of our time. Cantate Domino is an exuberant and virtuosic setting of the familiar words and is joined by his Hymn to the Creator of Light. Written for the dedication of the Howells Memorial Window at Gloucester Cathedral and first performed at the Three Choirs Festival of 1992, it is atypical Rutter with a vastly different scope, ambition, virtuosity, harmonic language to his usual output.

Join us for what promises to be an excellent evening’s music.
