Controlling the Demon Drink - The Alcohol Problem in Victorian Times

An evening talk organised by the Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology (SLHA) and presented by Adam Cartwright
The talk will open with a brief summary of public houses and brewing in Victorian Lincolnshire and will then move on to look at the Temperance Movement in Lincolnshire. Temperance Lobbying and the assault on pub numbers from 1870-1914 will be explored. Finally, the Libel Action when brewers James Hole of Newark sued John Richardson, Lincoln JP and leading Temperance figure w
