Concert Royal comprises Rachel Gray (violoncello/bass viol), Peter Harrison (flute) and John Treherne (harpsichord). They are one of England’s longest established early music ensembles although this will be their last season of touring. They played for the Middlewich and District Concerts Society almost thirty years ago so it is fitting that one their last concerts will be in Middlewich.
The programme is entitled Music for a Georgian Drawing Room. We have all seen period dramas so this concert will give you a real insight into what was actually being played at the time. Much of the music has fallen out of fashion and will be unfamiliar, but still has real charm. We will hear pieces by James Oswald, John Gunn, John Galliard, Dr. E. Miller and CF Abel. In addition we might feel more comfortable with music by JC Bach and Handel. All this and played on instruments of the period.
A concert definitely not to be missed. Full details are on the web-site www.madcs.org.uk, or contact Roger Evans on 01606 834471.
