Tim Firth is a well known writer of comedy, Neville's Island and Calendar Girls are just two. Sheila's Island premiered in 2022 in Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre.
Four women, middle managers in a mineral water company are suffering on the kind of hellish learning/bonding experience companies used to enjoy inflicting on their employees. They are on a treasure hunt in the Lake District but as the play opens they emerge from the lake soaking wet because their boat has sunk due to Sheila not realising that boats do not steer like cars. Where was the risk assessment you ask? Surely they will be rescued soon because Julie has phoned her husband who is always at home. Except he wasn't, how long does it take to shop at Aldi? Are they alone on the island? Will they bond as a team?
