Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra: Summer Prom

Saturday 18 June 2022 • 7:30 P.M.
St Paul's Church, Wimbledon Parkside SW19 6EW

WSO is delighted to welcome soloist Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux to play Mendelssohn's violin concerto, preceeded by Sibelius' Finlandia (a patriotic protest against Russian domination and censorship), as part of our Summer Prom concert.

The second half of the concert opens with the Overture to The Wreckers by Ethel Smyth which is to be performed at The BBC Proms this Summer; a production is also being staged at the Glyndebourne Opera festival in a new production. The highlight of the second half will be Elgar's Enigma Variations (described as a musical tribute to his friends and colleagues), followed by some classic patriotic works known from The Last Night of The Proms.

Sibelius • Finlandia, Op. 26
Mendelssohn • Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64
~ Interval ~
Ethel Smyth • Overture to The Wreckers
Elgar • Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 36, Enigma
