Art of Fantasia and Fugue - Masterful counterpoint by Purcell and Bach
The Art of Fugue by Johann Sebastian Bach and the Fantasias of Henry Purcell are masterpieces of counterpoint - Purcell’s composed in his youth and Bach’s in old age. Taking inspiration from Italy, both composers also wrote experimental trio sonatas, combining these new ideas with the old contrapuntal tradition. This sumptuous programme presents mysterious Fantasias, ingenious Fugues and playful Trio Sonatas.
