Songs That Made the Whole World Sing
Join The Blue Moon Band, Gary Cunliffe, vocals and Ian Gray, piano, with Brent Forbes, bass, Tony Harrison, drums and Paul Helliwell, saxophone for an evening of music and life stories to celebrate some of the greatest songwriters from the age of the American popular song, Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hart. The “Great American Songbook” is the canon of the most influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century onwards, the songs of New York’s Tin Pan Alley, Broadway musical theatre and Hollywood movie musicals, songs that were written during a time of rapid social change and growth in America and soon became the core repertoire of jazz musicians from the 20s to the 60s. From the 1970s onwards the music of the Songbook has continued to find new audiences as modern artists release popular albums of standards and the songs live on.
